KodiDevKit

A Sublime Text 4 plugin for Kodi skin and addon development. Provides validation, intelligent tooltips, auto-completion, JSON-RPC integration, and more.

Documentation

• Validation: on-save XML checks and full-skin reports covering variables, includes, maps, labels, fonts, IDs, images, XML structure, file integrity and the Kodi repo rules.
• Features: tooltips, auto-completion, keyboard shortcuts, fuzzy searches, context menu, JSON-RPC commands, Kodi log integration, building the skin.
• Settings: every setting with type, default, and description.
• Skin Shortcuts: how KodiDevKit handles runtime-generated content from script.skinshortcuts.

Requirements

1. Sublime Text 4 or later.
2. Project structure: Open your Kodi addon root as the only folder (File > Open Folder or a saved project).
3. Configuration: Settings are under Preferences > Package Settings > KodiDevKit. Set kodi_path to your Kodi installation folder to read Kodi's own language and color files; without it, copies bundled for each Kodi release are used.

Installation

Package Control (recommended): Install Package Control if you don't have it, then open the Command Palette (Ctrl+Shift+P), select "Package Control: Install Package", and search for "KodiDevKit".

Installer: Download install.py from the latest release and run it with Python. It finds Sublime Text's Packages folder and installs the package there; --uninstall removes it.

Manual: Clone into your Sublime Text Packages folder:

# Windows
cd "%APPDATA%/Sublime Text/Packages"

# macOS
cd "~/Library/Application Support/Sublime Text/Packages"

# Linux
cd "~/.config/sublime-text/Packages"

git clone https://github.com/MikeSiLVO/KodiDevKit.git

Restart Sublime Text after installing.

Command line

The same checks run without Sublime Text in kdk, a standalone validator for CI and the terminal: pip install kdk, then kdk validate <skin folder>.
